Lawyer knew he was beat, his only options is fold or show his hand, and his hand would get him in serious trouble as he is actively gambling in a court room which I imagine is very frowned upon and discredit his professionism.

When you try and discredit the witness and the witness ends up thoroughly discrediting you.

Hotch didn't really even really need to prove himself. The lawyer defending himself against Hotch's analysis was proof enough. When we're being confronted with uncomfortable truth and humiliated in public (especially when its our own doing), we automatically desire to save face and explain away the embarrassing, but correct assumptions, and that's exactly what the lawyer did.

Brings a smile to my face how Hotch absolutely vaporised this fool, calm and collected.
